Privacy Policy
The short version
- You can use the app without giving us your name, email or phone number.
- Your conversations are private to you. Our own staff can't browse them.
- Screenshots are read once to pull out the text and are never stored by us.
- To write suggestions, your conversation is sent to an AI service that isn't allowed to train its AI on it.
- The free version shows ads. We never use your conversations for ads, and we never sell your conversations.
Who we are
The Next Text ("the app", "we", "us") is run by Oakridge Apps. Questions about this policy or your data: oakridgeappsinc@gmail.com.
What we collect
- A guest account. When you first open the app, we create an anonymous account identified by a random ID. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
- What you give the app. The conversations you paste, the situations you describe, any extra context you add, and the text read from screenshots you choose. We store these with the advice the app gives you, so you can come back to them in History.
- Screenshots. When you choose a screenshot, the image is sent once to the AI service to read the messages, and you then see the text it found. We do not store the image.
- Usage records. For each AI request we record the time, the type of request, the AI service and model used, its size in tokens, its cost and how long it took. These records never contain your messages. We use them to enforce daily limits, prevent abuse and manage costs.
- Settings on your device. The app keeps your sign-in session and preferences (for example, the look you chose) on your device.
- Advertising data (iPhone and Android apps only). See "Ads" below.
How AI is used
To write suggestions, the app sends the conversation you shared (and, for screenshots, the image) to an AI service. Today that is Groq. Groq's terms don't allow it to use your content to train AI models, and we've turned on Groq's Zero Data Retention setting, so Groq doesn't keep your conversations or screenshots after answering. If we use another AI service in the future, such as Google's Gemini API, we will only do so under terms that don't let it train on your content, and we will update this policy.
Each AI service handles data under its own terms, for example the Groq Services Agreement and how Groq handles data. Even so, please leave out anything you aren't comfortable sharing, like full names, phone numbers or addresses.
Reporting an AI answer
AI can get things wrong. If an answer is offensive, harmful or wrong, tap Report under it. Only then is a copy of that AI answer, the reason you chose and the time sent to our team, so we can review it and improve the app. Your own messages are not included. Reports are deleted when you delete your data.
Ads
The free iPhone and Android apps show ads from Google AdMob on the Home and History screens, plus optional ads you can watch to unlock extra requests. Ads never appear inside your conversations or the screenshot flow, and your conversations are never used for advertising.
AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location and information about how you interact with ads. It uses these to show, measure and limit ads and, with your permission, to personalize them. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, you are asked for consent before personalized ads are shown.
- On iPhone, the app asks for permission before your advertising ID can be used for tracking.
- Where available, you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad Privacy Choices. You can also reset or turn off your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
The browser test version of the app does not show ads.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the services that run the app:
- Supabase hosts our database and servers in the United States.
- Groq generates the suggestions, as described above.
- Google AdMob provides ads.
- Vercel hosts the browser version of the app.
We don't sell your personal information. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
How long we keep data
- Conversations stay until you delete them. You can delete any conversation from its menu in the app.
- Screenshots are not stored by us.
- Usage records are kept for up to 13 months.
Your choices and rights
You can delete individual conversations in the app at any time, or everything at once with Settings → Delete All My Data. This deletes your account, conversations, preferences and any reports, and can't be undone. If you have Premium, cancel the subscription in the App Store or Google Play as well. You can also ask us to delete your data at thenexttext.com/delete-account. To access, correct or get a copy of your data, email oakridgeappsinc@gmail.com. Tell us roughly when you started using the app and on which device, because guest accounts aren't tied to a name or email. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including the right to object to processing or to complain to your local data-protection authority. We will respond within the time the law requires.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Database rules restrict each conversation to the account that created it, and administrators have no access to conversation content. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Age requirement
The Next Text is a dating and texting coach meant for adults. It is not for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete their data.
International users
We are based in the United States and our servers are there. If you use the app from elsewhere, your data will be processed in the United States and wherever our providers operate.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
